This potent ingredient lives below the surface, and is the secret to making big things happen in our career and in our lives. It comes from a place deep inside and is the magic ingredient that leaves the greatest impression after a job interview.
"Enthusiasm is the juice that bubbles over when we know WHAT we WANT and WHY we WANT it."
You can recognize the magical characteristic of enthusiasm because it is magnetic. People are drawn to you, without knowing why. Interviewers can feel your enthusiasm (or lack thereof), even over a phone or video interview. It's the intoxicating juice that makes people want to invest in what you’re doing or have whatever you’re having. They’ll crave a slice of whatever you’ve got because you’re emanating an arousing air of excitement about what it is you're up to. You radiate joy.
When we feel motivated by the WHY we’re doing what we’re doing, we operate from a place of genuine joy in what we’re creating. No longer thinking that we should want or should do because of prior belief patterns, fear, scarcity/lack mindset, pressure to conform or persuasion from outside influences - including family and friends with the best of intentions.
"Enthusiasm is palpable, and that's when life really becomes juicy.”
Your outward display of enthusiasm is only the tip of the iceberg, however. The enthusiasm you feel inside to be and do the best you can is transformative.
How do you summon enthusiasm? How do you make it a habit?
Visualization is a simple technique that you can use to create a strong mental image of a future event. With good use of visualization, you can practice in advance for the event, so that you can prepare properly for it and build the self-confidence you need to perform well.
Visualize walking into the interview. Old thought patterns or conventional wisdom might try to take control of the situation by saying: How are you going to do this? How are you going to convince this team of professionals that you can do the job? Why are people going to believe you? Instead of obsessing over imagined fears, or focusing on being unworthy or not good enough, reframe focus toward why you’re excited internally, which will ultimately be what translates externally.
Enthusiasm is a powerful antidote for self-doubt, as it helps us return to the original seed of WHY we wanted to start in the first place and WHAT we want to create in the world.
When you feel hopeful, excited, and inspired by what you're creating, where you're going and why you want it, you are channeling enthusiasm - the gasoline for positive momentum and a trajectory for where you want to go. Direct it with intention.
